Lake Ogallala, Nebraska

Click on this Link to See Camping Spot Locations

Getting There:
Take Interstate 80 to the Ogallala Exit #126 and turn north on Hwy 61 (or Spruce Street in Ogallala) to the Jct. of Hwy 61 & Hwy 26. Turn East (right) on Hwy 61 North (Hwy 61 will head east and curve to the north, leading you to the lake). Following Hwy 61 approximately 8 miles from Ogallala to the Headquarters Visitor Center & 1 more mile to Kingsley Dam. The easiest way to Lake Ogallala modern campground is to travel to the north end of Kinglsey Dam and take the first right heading East after crossing the dam on the Keystone asphalt road. Follow that asphalt road to the East side of Lake Ogallala to find the modern campground. Lake Ogallala is below the dam of Lake McConaughey, so you may follow the marked signs that direct visitors from the Interstate to Lake McConaughey

PRICES:
$25.00 Peak Season
$18.00 Walk In Season
Electric Only Sites

OVERVIEW:
Just on the other side of the dam you will find Lake Ogallala and camping area.  We love going to this camping site because of the scenery and shade cover trees.  I love when we are able to get a spot right on the lake and wake up next to the water.  I would recommend booking in advance as these sites fill up fast especially on the weekends.
Before you arrive at the park you will need to head towards the McConaughey side to get a fill up of water since it is a little easier to fill up here then at the campground.  They do have 5 water stations on site if you prefer.  This is where you will also find the dump station after your vacation is completed.
Lake Ogallala has only 320 acres of water but there is plenty of good fishing.  I caught a 8 pound catfish there last year.  The grandkids will love this place because they can catch a bunch of small fish here in a split second.
You are welcome to swim here but use caution and I would be sure to bring some water shoes as the fisherman/fisherwomen could have lost some hooks in the water.
Bring some bug spray...well bring a gallon of bug spray since you are by the water there are lots of biting flies and mosquitos.
Nebraska is known for its humidity so know that when its hot it's HOT!
A wheelchair accessible fishing dock is on site.
The bathhouse offers flush toilets and paid showers.  They are pretty clean but due to the bugs sometimes they can overtake the bathrooms and cause them to look dirty. The new shower house is a big hit because it is super clean and brand new! Bring some shower shoes...well whenever you use a public shower always wear shower shoes-flip flops.

Lake Pueblo Reservoir Colorado

Please take NOTE there is no fire burning allowed due to the extreme danger of FIRE

Pueblo is a great adventure spot for those of you who love to boat, fish, and camp.  If you have a tent, travel trailer, or RV this is the spot for you.  Pueblo is one of the most popular state parks in Colorado. There are over 4,500 acres of surface water at Lake Pueblo.

Fishing off shore is just not very good unless you are using a bobber because of the amount of trees and rocks close to the shore line.  If you are lucky enough to have a boat or can book a guide I would because fishing is amazing here.  We caught over 25 walleye that were less than 18” so we could not keep them but they sure were fun to catch.  Pueblo has a rule of over 18” for walleye or you could catch a severe fine.

We used Larry Walker for a fishing guide for the day and can I say he was AMAZING!  Larry was on time and had the boat in the water before we got there.  He provided drinks we just had to bring lunch.  He has a very nice comfortable boat…like the Lambo of boats.  He was very helpful and always helped us once we got each fish up to the boat.  I usually won’t give kudos unless it is due but he is best guide that we have ever used.  Can’t say enough good things about this guy!

Camping is available and I recommend that you book in advance they offer over 400 sites

Spots by the lake are hard to come by and are sold out on the weekends due to the amount of visitors.  The wind can get high up here and the heat is extreme at times so make sure you have plenty of sunscreen and cover ups….stay hydrated or you will suffer.  I took some photos of camping spots at Pueblo and as you can see there are hardly any shade trees so again beware.

The bathroom facilities are super clean and not what I expected at all.  They have flush toilets and free showers just a hop skip and jump away from each site.  They only offer electric only sites so fill up with water on your way in if you have an RV or travel trailer.

Golden Eagle Campground and Trout Fishing Colorado Springs

Golden Eagle Campground
Colorado Springs, Colorado

Golden Eagle is the home of the May Bug Museum.  They have the largest collection of bugs seen around the world.  At your stop here you will find a trout pond that is stocked with Rainbow Trout.  You will pay a $7.00 daily fee per person to fish here no Colorado fishing license is needed.  This time around the pond is low due to the drought.  We still caught are daily limit of fish plus all the ones we put back.  You are allowed three fish per person per day.

Animals are allowed here as long as they are on a leash.  No not your husband ladies…your doggies.  They are a pet friendly campground but dogs are not allowed in the trout pond.

Golden Eagle also offers a hike to the top of the mountain that overlooks the campground.  It is a medium level hike in my opinion because some areas are extra steep and lots of loose rocks.  Stay on the trails because there are bears, snakes, and other creatures.  It is a beautiful outlook once you reach the top.  There you will look out over the top of Colorado Springs and see the campground.

There are some things to be aware of when camping here.  The hook up for electric can be quite far from your RV or Trailer.  If you need an extension they provide them at the office for 30 or 50 amp.  They require a deposit of $65.00 and it will be returned to you when you turn the extension cord back in.  Also, you will need some leveling blocks because the ground here can be quite uneven.  You might also need an extension on your water hose because of the length it has to reach.  For the last thing that might bring you a headache is that you need one of the sewer line ladders.  The length again of the reach your sewer and black water will not drain properly if you do not have the ladder.  Also, take your time pulling into the spots some can be tight….

For you people who have to have internet connection they do offer free WIFI.  However, it does not work…ever and your cell service will be intermittent.  So please do not rely on their service because we could not ever connect while we were there.

They offer laundry facilities and a bath house.  The bathroom were always clean and the showers were spick and span also FREE.   It is very nice to see a campground with such a clean bathroom.

Make your reservation in advance or just call when you are on your way.  It seems like they always have spots available.  They have full hook ups or electric only sites.  Everyone we ran into seemed very friendly and helpful.  It is beautiful there and we enjoy camping there even with the little headaches.

    Fishing in Colorado Rainbow-Walleye-Salmon-Family

    RAINBOW TROUT
Rainbow trout are plentiful in the majority of reservoirs and they are a fun catch.  Rainbow's like to jump out of the water to try to get off the hook as you have  them on the hook giving you a good fight.  Trout are the 4th most popular fish to catch and are mostly found in cold water areas.
In Colorado there are ponds that will actually stock Trout for the beginner fisherman or fisherwoman.

    WALLEYE
Walleye are one of the best tasting fish in my opinion.  They are fun to catch because they are finicky eaters.  These lil buggers will have to be tempted...mostly with live bait.  Walleye usually swim in schools so if you get one you will probably get another.  I have found that Walleye like leaches or night crawlers and that makes for an easier catch.

    SALMON
Salmon cannot spawn in Colorado so they have to be stocked.  Kokanee salmon are stocked in many Colorado waters.  Beaver Creek, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Blue Mesa, Clear Creek, Grand Lake, Blue Mesa, Shadow Mountain Reservoir, Williams Fork Reservoir, Taylor Reservoirs are some of the waters that have Salmon.

If you don't like fishing with a ton of people you probably should avoid Cherry Creek Reservoir, Chatfield, and Boulder Reservoir during the weekend because it can be crazy busy.

    FAMILY
The Trout Haven Ranch in Estes Park is a great option for families.  Each person is guaranteed to catch a fish.  They will provide all the equipment for each fisherman or fisherwoman.

    COLORADO
With 8,000 miles of rivers and more than 2,000 lakes, Colorado fishing is some of the best, and most abundant, anywhere.  Not to mention the natural beauty that surrounds it all. Fly-fishers, ice-fishers and pure rod-and-reelers find plenty of places to fish in Colorado.

RV Travel Trailer Fishing Pole Holder Dont Get Tangled Up For CHEEP

Tired of getting your fishing poles all tangled up in your storage compartment of your travel trailer?

    1.   Purchase a cheep broom holder...Walmart sells this and the metal one works the best

    2.   Go to your local hardware store and get PVC round fittings

    3.   Get some small screws

    4.   Drill a hole in one side big enough for the screw to go in in the PVC fitting

    5.   Attach the broom holder with screws on one side of wood support. This could be at the top of             your trailer or on the side.

    6.    On the other end attach with screws the PVC fittings lining them up with the broom holder

    7.    Direct your fishing pole into the center of the PVC fitting and clasp the pole handle in the broom           handle.

    7.   Waaa La...you are done and your fishing poles will not get tangled up anymore!

Keep Your Drink Ice Cold On Hot Summer Days Yeti Cup Tumbler VS Ozark Trail Tumber Walmart RV Travel Trailer

Do you want a drink to stay COLD during the heat and not have your ice melt?  I think everyone has been in this situation where you go to take a sip after a couple of minutes and all your ice is gone.  Your drink is starting to get warm and you just want to pour it out  ohhh gross.....Fear Not.
Companies have been embarking over the past couple of years to make tumbles that will withstand the heat and keep your drink ice cold all day.

    YETI

Yeti has been designing coolers since 2006 because most coolers would not withstand the torture that us outdoor people would place on them.  Most people they say had to purchase new coolers every year due to broken wheels, handles, or tops.   So these brothers invented the YETI Cooler.
They now make these tumblers, cups, and can koozies.
    • 18/8 Stainless Steel
    • Dishwasher Safe
    • Double Wall Vacuum Insulation
    • Custom Designs are no available
    • Multi Colors or Stainless Design

Yeti's are $19 and up depending on the size and shape that you want

    OZARK TRAIL  (WALMART)

Image result for ozark trail tumbler
For those thrifty one's of us who don't need to have a brand name came the Ozark Trail Tumbler.
These are sold at Walmart at a lower cost of a Yeti.  You can find these in the camping section of your local Walmart.
  • Double-wall vacuum insulation
  • Sweat-free design
  • Durable, rust-proof
  • 30-ounce tumbler is BPA-free
  • NOT DISHWASHER SAFE
  •  Multi Colors or Stainless Design

  •
Ozark Trail's are $8.74 at Walmart for the 30oz Tumbler
    https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-30-Ounce-Double-Wall-Vacuum-Sealed-Tumbler/171452737

    Ice Test:
So I purchased a Yeti and an Ozark Trail Tumbler and placed a cup of ice in each tumbler and let it sit in my camper when the thermostat said 75 degrees with the lid on each.  Placed each tumbler on the kitchen counter and let them sit.
After 4 hours I checked each tumbler and found out that they each had approximately one teaspoon of water from the ice that melted from each cup. I decided to leave them overnight and to my surprise there was not much difference at all in the remaining ice in each tumbler.  They tested just about the same.
The next day I decided to put water in the YETI tumbler and put a cup of ice in it.  The next morning after 8 hours there was still ice in the cup and the water was COLD!   WOW!!!

    Decision :
    •    The tumblers look the same but the YETI name stands out on their tumbler.
    •    Both the Yeti and the Ozark say they are made in China.
    •    If I use these for camping I do not have to worry about the Ozark not being dishwasher safe
    •    Love both of these tumblers because they do not "sweat"
    •   If you choose the YETI or the Ozark you will get the same concept  without the     brand name price.
    •   So I could not choose just one so I chose them both.  I have multi colored YETI's and Ozarks for each of my kids.  I also purchased the can Koozies so we can have adult beverages that will hold cans of beer..etc.   I am sad that no company offers a smaller size Koozie that will hold my Lime o Ritas...maybe someday.

RV Travel Trailer Gadgets Must Haves 2018

Ever wondered how small little gadgets can be a life saver in your RV

    DECOR
    Command Strips

Made by 3M for around $3.00 at Walmart you can put these on your hanging wall photos, trinkets, and hooks.
All you do is peel and stick them without damaging your walls.
They are damage-free hanging and stick together with Velcro and a sticker.
I hung up some wooden sayings in my travel trailer with these. Even with all that bumping jumping around they have never come off the wall.
They happen to be one of my favorite things that I use.
I used the command strips to hand this key hook up without having to put screws in the wall.  I am terrible about finding my keys so this was perfect.   If I want to switch it up I can just pull the tab and it comes right off.

    Command Hooks
    I love these lil guys

    Slow Cooker Liners
Ohh my how many good things can I say about slow cooker liners. I LOVE THEM!!  Plop one in before you start your cooking and waa laaa when your done just take it out and throw it away and all your mess is gone with little clean up!
I love to make desserts in the slow cooker (Dump Cake-Brownies) and it always is a terrible mess to clean up...not with these babies.

    Shower Squeegee

No matter how level my travel trailer is there is no cure for the water not draining out of my shower pan.  So no worries I take the shower squeegee after everyone showers and pull the water into the drain...works perfect.  Better yet it cost $1 at the dollar tree and it works perfect.

    Tire Pressure Monitor

I don't know how it is possible but you can be driving down the road and not even tell that you have one blown tire. Ruin your rim and possibly be in a dangerous situation.  With this baby you just screw the caps on put the monitor on your dash...USB Powered.  waa laa you can pull over when you see there is a problem.
You can purchase this at your local camping store or you can search for them on Ebay...cheaper.
    https://www.campingworld.com/tireminder-trailer-tire-pressure-monitoring-system-tpms-2-tire-kit?CAWELAID=120030630000004774&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmPPYBRCgARIsALOziAOvZc4UrvYMGt8IMLtrrUIYkPH5_rGiWaY8i97PNgMeshLY7hHCwy8aAnTpEALw_wcB

    Plug In Tire Air Compressor
Speaking about tires how annoying is it when you go to leave the camp site and you see that your tire has lost some air.  You know you don't want to go to the closest filling station so you have this handy gadget on hand.  You can plug it into your car power outlet and waa laa fast and easy way to fill your tires.  I paid under $60 bucks for mine.

    Disposable Pie Tin

Ok so I love to make stuffed sausage Anaheim peppers on the grill but it makes a total mess.  So go out to Walmart or the Dollar Tree and purchase disposable pin tins.  I line them with aluminum foil so that I can use them again..cause I am cheep.  You can put anything in these babies and it helps keep your grill from becoming a hot mess.

    Disposable Shower Cap
Yea I thought it was very strange too when I asked my friend why she had shower caps out on the table.  She told me it is to cover up food when you bring it outside to protect it from bugs getting in it.
    WOW genius idea.

    ICE
I bought a fancy ice cube machine that is heavy, takes up a lot a room, and is not the most convenient. It works great but you need to store the ice after it is made or it starts to melt.
So I need ice all the time for my drinks and I am tired of putting ice bags in my freezer and having them leak.  So here's what I did.  I purchased a water bottle ice cube tray and it is small and compact and fits easy into my small freezer space that I have.
