Is Your Refrigerator Running Does Your Travel Trailer Fridge only Cool on Gas?

I was only aware of turning on and off my fridge with the power button or switching it to gas or electric.  Mistakenly I have never really thought about the possibility of having my food spoiled in my fridge or ever considered it not working in general.  I have been told that your fridge in your camper runs completely different then the one you have in your home.
  • There is no compressor that is running Freon through the coils-Instead, heat from either an electric element or a small flame that will circulates an ammonia mixture through cooling tubes.
  • Most RV refrigerators operate on either 110v or Propane

****If you smell ammonia odor your cooling unit has been punctured.  (not a good situation here)****

Most likely it would be less costly to replace the entire fridge instead of repairing it.

****Now...Try switching your fridge from electric to gas and see if it starts working.

If the fridge does start working then check your circuit breakers and fuses. This is the best place to start and will cost you pennies to repair. You should always travel with a set of fuses in your camper anyway.  You want to make sure they are working correctly and that you don't need to replace a fuse. Sometimes you cannot see that the fuse is broken and it is worth replacing to see if it fixes the problem.

If there is anything more to this and the fuse or circuit breaker is fine then I would recommend bringing it to the dealer because you can get dangerous voltage coming out of the wiring.

Image result for truck bed pool

Let's Go to The Pool...In my TRUCK

Transform your truck into an amazing pool and cool off this summer.  This pool is the ultimate party accessory to any truck bed.  You will be the hit of your block for a couple of hundred bucks.
     DANGER:
If you have thought about using a tarp to save some money think again because it can damage your truck bed and paint.  However, this liner can also cause damage to your truck if you are exceeding the load amount for your truck bed. Please check with your manufacture to find out if your truck can handle the weight.  Water is one of the heaviest things you can put in your bed weighing around 65 pounds alone.

Exercise and Feel Great While Camping

    BIKE
Did you know that you can burn around 48 calories per mile ridden on a bicycle?  If you ride faster or up steeper hills you will burn more plus you get to see some amazing sites as you feel the breeze in your hair.
    HIKE
Oh just go and take a hike they say but did you know that it burns 430-440 calories per hour?  If you change your pattern of hiking you will burn even more.

    SQUAT
Have you ever done push-ups or squats using a bench or picnic table? If you decide to go to the playground you will burn over 400 calories in one hour.  Keep the sweat off and stretch those muscles.

    RUN
During the morning you might decide that you would like to take a run.  You should never run during the heat of the day especially if you are not use to the altitude that you are running at. Make sure you stay hydrated because you are about to burn around 300 calories in 30 minutes.

Step Back in the Past and Vintage Camp

    Vintage Camping

Sometimes we can get caught up in the newest best and biggest rig to get us out there in the wilderness.  We want to make sure that we have today's luxuries when we decide to hit the road and travel to the country.  However, if we take a step back we will see that we do not always need all the modern gear.

If I look at the way my grandparents stated camping it amazes me.  It is very interesting to look at old photos and see the contraptions that they used to make their lives easier.  The same tools and supplies they used will work for us today we just need to slow down just a bit.

So if we continue to look back and step out of our trailer that has the propane stove for cooking we would  have used a campfire.  You cannot use today's modern skillets for cooking over a campfire because they would melt. Instead you will be using a cast iron skillet that can be placed right on the coals or on top of the grate.   Cooking on a cast iron skillet is actually amazing and will give your food great taste.

Now we will get on to the subject of coffee because it is an essential part of any campers day. If you need a fresh brew their is nothing tastier then a cowboy kettle otherwise know as a coffee press.  In the morning start your campfire and place this on the grate and wait until you see steam come out and waa laa yummy fresh hot coffee.

Then we will decide that we will need some more wood for our campfire later on tonight but we will be leaving the chainsaw at home so we will pick up that handy ax.  Splitting or cutting wood from a downed tree is super easy once you get the hang of it...use caution but it works.

Having a day backpack is essential when hiking or going some distance from your campsite. It is always important to have some type of first aid kit in your pack along with some hydration.  So why not use a canteen.  Canteens can still be found today instead of using a plastic water bottle.  You will find that placing some ice cubes inside will keep the water cold for a long time.

Not that you have some ideas of how to step back and slow down you all have fun out there using vintage camping items.
